Ballet is a form of dance developed in the courts of Renaissance Italy and was brought to France at the time of Catherine de Medici back in the middle ages.
The dance art, being new to the kingdom, became a great favorite with King Louis XIV, who even cast himself in the leading roles of elaborately costumed court spectaculars.
Ballet has since spread to all the corners of the world reaching new heights of perfection, especially in Russia and many parts of the world.
It has since soared to popularity that professional ballet companies can now be found on every continent.
Since it was introduced in the United States, Americans have developed a romance with the dance art and have been able to bring ballet to greater heights through popularity, support and promotion of the art.
And because of this, today New York is considered as the Dance Capital of the World. Ballet is easily differentiated from common forms of traditional and modern dancing, especially since it has strict and specific rules about how the dancer must stand and move all throughout the ballet presentation.
One of those rules requires that the dancer stand with their legs rotated outwards, which is called a turn out. The turn out is intended for greater mobility of the legs and produces a pleasing and strong line in many poses and since this isn't a natural way of standing, ballet dancers train regularly and carefully to prevent injuries, especially on their knees or ankles.
It is also important for a ballet dancer to maintain good body alignment and posture to prevent injury, as well as produce a more pleasing look for the audience.
Ballet, as a theatrical form of dance, is usually presented with the idea of an audience viewing it from a fixed perspective.
It is a very expressive art form, one that tells stories and show emotions, others showing an abstract interpretation of life.
People have always danced and historically, before there were languages that have been established, people danced as a way to show how they felt and what they were thinking. To this day dance is an important part of the rituals of many cultures and of significant social importance.
There are many forms of dance, social, theatrical, religious, etc.
There are also many different disciplines within each style, Ballet, Modern Dance, Jazz Dance, World Folk Dance, Hip Hop, etc.
Regardless of the quality or substance of each ballet presentation, ballet is here to stay.
