Tips For Removing Or Covering Up Unwanted Tattoos

Sometimes, tattoos are planned for many years and we take the utmost care in placement and subject matter. Other times, things aren't as pleasant. Countless individuals have "spur of the moment" types of tattoos that were done on a whim, at a very young age, or after an intoxicating night of drinking. While they may be funny to friends and family, these tattoos can be devastating for the person who has it! Luckily, those who have a passion for skin care have developed new and better ways of removing those tattoos that you just want to live without.

Tattoos can now be removed through a process called selective thermolysis. This process uses a number of lasers to help remove the unwanted tattoo. The laser's energy is pointed at the dyes in your skin, which is where the "selective" part of the name comes into play-selective thermolysis tries to deconstruct the dyes and colorings used to create your tattoo while protecting your skin. It is important to note that not all colors can be successfully removed. In fact some, like red, will darken with this laser procedure. When they say that tattoos are forever, they aren't kidding! If you are lucky enough to have a tattoo that can be removed, selective thermolysis can help you do so.

Removing your tattoo will, of course, do some damage to your skin no matter how careful you are. It will be painful, and will probably be just as painful or more so than it was when the tattoo was first put onto your body. In most cases, you will be able to stand the pain, but sometimes you can receive local anesthesia to help with the discomfort.

Remember that you will not only be hurting your skin, but you will also be hurting your wallet. Removing a tattoo can be very expensive, especially when your tattoo is very dark or detailed. Several sessions are needed for such tattoos in order to completely remove them. Sometimes people opt to simply lighten a tattoo and then cover it up daily with make-up instead of continuing the laser process.

When you undergo laser treatment to remove a tattoo, remember to protect your skin afterward. The wound left will usually be slightly painful and will form a scab. Do not pick at the scab and keep your bandages clean and disinfected. Hopefully, next time you go for a tattoo you will think twice to be sure it is something you want to keep forever.
