But all that functionality comes with a price, of course and a hefty one at that. So is the iPhone worth it and is there any chance Apple might want to cut the price in a few months?
Pricing a most-wanted gadget doesn't have to be tricky. Build it and they will come, right? And come they did. For the price of just $499 and $599 (plus the monthly phone service charges from Cingular), you'll get the full strength of Apple's newest baby, probably the world's most expensive phone.
And what a baby it is. For that price tag, you'll get plenty of nice things to love about the phone like the 8.9 cm touch screen, the software, the functions, features and of course, the way it will up your status symbol.
Why The iPhone's Price Should Put You Off
Before its release, there had been plenty of talk about how the iPhone's price could limit its attractiveness to consumers. However, with the kind of reception it has received, it's far from becoming a failure. For the kind of money you'll have to fork over to buy the iPhone, you'll probably gripe about its memory (just 4MB and 8MB). That means you'll have to spend $100 more if you want an extra 4MB. It also uses 2G, not 3G technology. If you prefer the bells and whistles of 3G, you might be just a wee bit disappointed with the iPhone. Yes, it is expensive but considering that plenty of people spent the same amount of money for the iPod, there's no reason why they wouldn't spend for a gadget that does so much more. If the price is a turn off now, you can always wait until a cheaper or better iPhone emerges in the future.
Is A Price Cut Going To Happen In The Future?
It's difficult to say if Apple will slash the iPhone's price, although some market research companies like iSuppli predict they will. If the pricing scheme of the most wanted gadgets in the past is something to go by, there might also be reason to hope that iPhone's price will go down even as features improve. Remember the iPod? Its selling price when it first came out was $399. It has gone down by almost half since then. Will the iPhone be next? That remains to be seen.
