The Importance Of Ballet Training

There is nothing more rewarding and fulfilling for a ballet dancer than to join and win an international ballet competition. This is because the ballet dancer not only gets to display his or her mastery in dancing in front of the international crowd but can also get the chance to meet and compete with the world's best among the field. But, this won't be possible if he or she doesn't undergo rigorous training under a renowned mentor or a prestigious ballet school.

Although it might seem easy because of the powerful yet light movements performed by the dancers, there's nothing easy in ballet. Seasoned ballerinas will attest to this because this beautiful art form requires physical endurance and stability to be able to meet the demands of each step and movement needed.

Training is very important for a ballet dancer because his or her muscles will be toned enough to meet the rigorous requirements of the dance. Aside from helping the dancer achieve the ideal weight and muscles, the training will also help him or her enhance body awareness and improve flexibility, strength, hand and feet coordination, and agility.

The Training Needed For Ballet

Ballet training is usually composed of everyday practice at the barre the bar or rail attached to the wall. Here, the dancer starts with stretching his or her body for warm up. It will be followed by a series of exercises involving the ankles, feet, legs knees, hip, and torso. Specific arms movements will follow to prepare them for the needed steps.

After the simple exercises at the barre, the dancers will then proceed to precise memory, balance, dexterity, control and agility exercises done at the middle of the wooden sprung floor. During these series of exercises, footwork as well as poise and grace in standing up are enhanced.

A series of turns and leaps will then follow along with proper foot pointing. Since these the movements in these exercises are hard to master and control, most of the class hours are spent in doing these basic movements alone. For intermediate and advanced level dancers, they undergo more rigorous training that includes complicated movements and steps. They are also under the meticulous monitoring of teachers to ensure that they are improving in terms of body flexibility and performance level.

In most schools, the major training is based on various ballet techniques and methods including Cecchetti technique, Vaganova technique, Balanchine method, and Legat Method.
