Stress & Diabetes: Eliminate The Disturbances Within Your Life

When faced with a disease such as diabetes, it is very important to minimize or eradicate stress from your life altogether. The big question that you must ask yourself is “how do I get rid of stress and negative situations from my life?”

The first thing you have to do is become more aware of your emotions and the sensations you feel during stress. Unfortunately in this day and age many people have been conditioned to experience stress as a normal way of life. We tend to ignore the signs of stress within our lives. And when we do experience stress and negativity, sometimes the only outlet that we know of is very damaging to our health, such as eating too much food, drinking alcohol, and smoking tobacco – all in an effort to “feel better”.

There are some very easy ways that you can use to reduce the frequency of negative situations and stressful occurrences within your life. One of the first places that you can tend to is by making changes in your family setting, your social network, and your work environment. If you are the assertive type, then you can work to change your environment by requesting changes in the people and conditions around you.

For those of you that are less assertive, another option is for you to withdraw from any situation that is causing distress. For example, if you go to your doctor and he does not listen to what you have to say, but instead tends to use fear as a way to motivate you, then switch doctors.

If you have friends that enjoy your company but get involved with certain social situations that make you feel uncomfortable, then you can either request to participate in different activities or just stop hanging out with those friends altogether.

At home, sit down with your family and really get them to listen to your motions and try to work out any differences that may be causing you negativity. Explain to them that it may be detrimental to your health as well as interfere with your diabetes treatments.

All of the above changes must take place in your life if reducing stress is a priority for you. It may seem uncomfortable and even stressful to imagine making such drastic changes, but by moving out of your comfort zone and getting rid of the elements in your life that cause you stress, you will be amazed at the improvement of your overall well-being, as well as your diabetes treatments.
