Skin Care for Your New Born

When you bring a newborn home from the hospital, you dote over his or her every move and make sure all needs are completely fulfilled. However, most parents don't realize that baby skin care is extremely important! Within a few weeks, most parents are troubled as their child develops dry redness, peeling, or even acne. There are steps you can take to prevent these skin conditions with your baby. By talking to your doctor about baby skin care and listening to the following tips, you can be sure that your baby's skin will be healthy and your child will be happy.

Newborns have extremely sensitive skin. Even things that do not affect a normally sensitive person will hurt a baby's skin. To be sure that you are providing the best skin care environment for your baby, it is first important to wash all bed lines and clothing in a hypoallergenic soap made especially for babies. Remember that these garments should be very soft and clothing should be loose fitting. To keep your baby warm, use many layers, rather than heavy, itchy material.

Also be conscientious about bathing your child. First, as most parents know, use baby shampoos and soap in order to provide your child with products that are specifically made for that age group. Adult soaps and other products are simply too harsh in most cases. Bathing doesn't need to occur every day either. Babies don't really do much more than sleep during the first few months. Even when your baby is awake, he or she certainly isn't breaking up a sweat! Keep your child's face and diaper clean, but avoid bathing every day. Bathing too often is harsh for the skin and can cause dryness and peeling.

Remember to protect your child from the sun when he or she is taken outdoors. Babies, even as young as a few weeks old, need fresh air and sunlight too. Simply use appropriate layers and clothing to protect your baby's skin. Also be sure both you and your baby are wearing sun block every day.

For more information about protecting your baby, it is best to talk to your doctor. He or she can give you lots of information about which products are safe for your baby as well as give you tips about helping your baby if skin problems develop. By speaking with your doctor often about your baby's skin care, you can be sure to help you baby look and feel the best possible!
