There are steps you can take to prevent these skin conditions with your baby. Newborns have extremely sensitive skin. Even things that do not affect a normally sensitive person will hurt a baby's skin. Remember that these garments should be very soft and clothing should be loose fitting. To keep your baby warm, use many layers, rather than heavy, itchy material.

Bathing too often is harsh for the skin and can cause dryness and peeling.
Remember to protect your child from the sun when he or she is taken outdoors. Babies, even as young as a few weeks old, need fresh air and sunlight too. Simply use appropriate layers and clothing to protect your baby's skin. Also be sure both you and your baby are wearing sun block every day.
