While no one can stop you from learning any trick you want, it is better to start with the basic. You probably know how to ollie or even how to kick or heelflip. So if you want something for a change, then learn the 50-50. This is the first grind trick most skaters learn. The trick isn't too technical or complicated. (I didn't use the work "difficult" since what is easy and difficult differ from one person to another.)
The 50-50 is riding while grinding with both trucks, usually along edges such as rails, coping, and rails, instead of rolling with the wheels. The name is derived from how it looks like, being half off the edge and half on. To perform this trick, you must learn first how to ollie. Get comfortable with the ollie and try the 50-50 later.
Choosing the right edge is important if you want to successfully do the trick. If this is your first time, choose a ledge instead of a rail so in case you fall off, you fall off softer. A lot of skate parks have well-constructed ledges you can use. Or, if you have the time, you can construct your own ledge in your garage.
Once you have found your spot, move a fair distance away from it and push your skateboard to a comfortable speed. Remember: the faster you go, the further your grind will be.
When you reach your top speed, assume the ollie position, front foot between the middle of the deck and the front truck and the ball of the back foot at the tail of the board.
As you reach the ledge, bend your knees and ollie. Keep your knees bent as you land with the center of your front and rear trucks sitting under the ledge. Your feet should be directly under the trucks (similar to the landing on ollie). Keep your balance. Relax your body and grind all the way down.
Prepare to pop out when you reach the end of the ledge or when your speed has slowed down.
Do not bail out. Grinding is one thing, landing is another. Give your tail a small pop and land on the ground. Aim to land on all four wheels with your feet standing directly on the trucks.
It sounds easy but you really have to have the guts to do it. Start at low ledges and move gradually from there.
