Sewing Closet Organizers

Clutter in the closet may be avoided. How? It's very simple. You can make your own closet organizers by sewing them. These closet organizers are made with multiple pockets that provide space for small items such as panty hose and socks.

Making a closet organizer is easy and fun. Novice, experienced and professional users can make them in no time. With planning, you can come up with a set of organizers for various purposes.

To start with the project, you'll need fabric with a small-scale print. This fabric will be used for the front of your space-saver. Then you should pick out a fabric with a matching print. This fabric should preferably have a larger scale print or solid color for the pockets. Then select a durable fabric than could withstand a lot of tear and wear. The back of the organizer won't usually show so you could simply utilize extra fabric that you used in previous projects.

When you want to make an organizer that can hang on a door or a knob, you should make it small and narrow. If you want to use your closet space to the fullest, then create space savers that almost touch the floor.

A large piece of textile is needed for the front of your organizer. This fabric will be used as the backbone of your organizer. When cutting the fabric for the front and back, make sure that you add allowance for seams on all sides. Then, make another piece that has the same size as the front piece. Put the right sides together and make some stitches on all the edges. If you are making a closet door organizer, don't forget to provide an opening at the bottom of the two pieces so you can turn them inside out. If you intend to attach the organizer to a hanger, an opening on the top should be left. Once the hanger is placed inside, close the opening using slipstitches.

Once the backbone is complete, you can now start adding pockets. First, you need to decide on the number and sizes of pockets that you would like to have. These pockets should run in rows. If you are thinking of making easy and quick organizers, then you can just put one pocket that has a width two inches less than that of the organizer. After the pockets are stitched in, divide the pockets by making running stitches through the different layers. After this, you should hem the top part of the pocket. The seam allowances should then be pressed before pinning them down.

Now, you could start organizing your closet after sewing a closet organizer in no time.
