There is truth in the age old advice to do your traveling while you still can. Don't wait until those legs of yours become so crusty that you can no longer walk a mile even if you have a chauffeured car waiting for you at every turn, the walking is the least of your problems when traveling. There will be the issues of backaches, sore muscles, indigestion and frequent urinating, which can be inconvenient for some of the members of the family. Here are some travel senior care tips that will help ease the inconvenience of traveling with an elderly person in tow.
1. Bring A Small Chair.
Elderly people's legs are not what they used to be. They cannot walk long miles and they certainly cannot stand for long hours like young people who can probably stand the whole day. To ensure that they will be able to rest their feet even at the most inconvenient places, make sure that you have with you a small chair. One product that you will find very convenient when traveling with the elderly is the small chair that doubles as a crutch. Elderly people can use them as a crutch and then convert them to a chair when they are not walking anymore.
2. Bring Lots Of Tissues And A Portable Toilet Bowl.
Another must have when traveling with elderly people are boxes and boxes of tissues and portable toilet bowls that they can use just in case a bout of indigestion attacks. Remember that their digestive system is not what it used to be. A little bacteria can wreak havoc in their system. It is good to be prepared for anything.
3. Time Your Schedule In The Morning And Bring A Hat.
Elderly people are more prone to heat strokes. They also get easily tired when the weather is hot because their bodies get dehydrated. That is why it is good to schedule your travel and sightseeing in the morning when the sun is not at its peak and schedule the indoor tours during noon and in the early part of the afternoon.
4. Medicines
This is something that you should not leave the house without and perhaps the most important senior care tip. Elderly people often have medicine schedules that they cannot miss out. Although you can certainly buy the medicines again and just take the others at a later date, the problem is actually where to buy them. Travel spots do not often have drug stores where you can buy medicines. The most that they can offer are small clinics. This is especially true with places that are very far away from the main cities.
