SVO Biodiesel Kit

SVO stands for straight vegetable oil. If you are planning on putting straight vegetable oil in your diesel car or engine keep in mind that it has to be heated first. However keep in mind that blending regular diesel fuel with vegetable oil or gas with vegetable oil does not make biodiesel. However it can be done in a pinch if you are in an emergency. This is where an SVO biodiesel kit can come in handy.

Ignore all those people who insist that all you need to do pour SVO (straight vegetable oil.) 10% vegetable oil and 90% petro-diesel to 90% vegetable oil and 10% petro-diesel in the gas tank. The only way that you can get around pouring straight vegetable oil or SVO blends in your engine is to buy what is called a 'grease car' or SVO kit. This type of biodiesel allows you to install heating units and tubes in your car under the hood so that it converts the oil into a form of biodiesel while the car is running. There are all kinds of these systems available commercially and also from independent inventors on the Internet.

No matter what your neighbor or various internet sources tell you it is a good idea to stay away from experimenting with blending diesel with solvents or blending vegetable oil with solvents or unleaded gasoline. Once you buy an SVO biodiesel conversion kit make sure you stick to the manufacturer or inventor's recommendations. This is because little is known about the fl point of gas and vegetable oil mixed together. A fire or explosion is a good possibility.

The reason that straight vegetable oil should never be poured straight into a diesel engine is because it is too thick. Most diesel engines and diesel cars have very specific fuel requirements, especially if the machine is brand new. Oil has different chemical properties and combustion characteristics from the petroleum diesel fuel for which diesel engines and their fuel systems are designed.

SVO conversion kits and biodiesel kits tend to work better in newer machines. A SVO blend work in your machine's system if the machine is older as long as you don't make the percentage of oil to diesel more than 20%. Of course before you take any steps in this direction you should always read what the manufacturer of your diesel car or diesel engine has to say first.

If you are going to use straight vegetable oil then you will have to look into buying an SVO car system. There are all kinds of biodiesel kits and systems available and most of them can be installed with minimal modifications to your vehicle.

Most of these systems are sold as a single tank unit that is fitted into your car along with special seals, hoses and plugs that do not degrade when exposed to vegetable oil. Some of these systems allow you to convert your car so that you can use petroleum diesel, biodiesel or SVO in any combination safely.
