Pros And Cons Of Senior Care Facilities

One of the most popular options for families who cannot take care of their elderly parents and relatives because of time constraints is sending them to senior care facilities. This is especially true in this day and age when most people have work, whether part-time or full time, and they're not home much.

The increasing need for this type of special service for the elderly has given rise to the number of senior care facilities in the country. But despite the huge convenience that it provides to families, many are still in doubt whether these establishments can provide the best possible care for the elderly. Or is home care still the best option?

Below are some of the pros and cons of sending your loved one to a senior care facility.

The Pros

1. They Will Be Closely Monitored.

Elderly people will not lack for attention in a senior care facility. They will be closely monitored inside. Senior care homes have medical professionals, nurses and caregivers who can look into their condition and provide care for them. You can be sure that your elderly parents and relatives will be taken cared of.

2. Better Diet.

Senior care homes can provide better meals than you can. This is because elderly people require some nutrients and types of foods that sometimes homes cannot provide because not every member in the family can eat it. It is also harder to cook meals for them because there are a number of foods that they cannot eat. In senior care homes, their diet will be monitored and planned by a dietician or a nutritionist. These professionals are responsible in ensuring that they have the right nutritional intake everyday.

The Cons

1. Away From Home.

One of the hardest parts in sending them to a senior care facility is the parting. Most families do not want their elderly parents and relatives to live so far away from them especially when they have no chance of seeing them every day because of the location.

2. Emotional Effect.

Sending elderly people to a senior care home can also give them the impression that they are not wanted anymore or that they are a burden on the family. This can lead to feelings of depression that can eventually affect their health and well being. If you are planning to send them to such a facility, make sure that you have properly explained to them the reasons why you are doing so.
