For some comic book collectors, they try to purchase two copies of an issue of a particular comic book. This is so that they will be able to have the pleasure of reading and appreciating the graphic art of the comic book. On the other hand, have a great copy to add to their comic book collection. Comic book collecting doesn't have to be this expensive.
Yes comic book collections are an investment, but that doesn't mean that you have to spend twice just so you will be able to read what you enjoy and have a great looking collection. With the right care and precautions, all you need to buy would be just one and still have it like it's in mint condition. Besides, if you really want to make a comic book last a long time, it doesn't really go untouched, even if its brand new. You still have to take it out of its plastic sleeve, make sure that you have an acid free backing board and maybe replace the plastic with a better one.
Here are some tips to remember when you are reading your comic book:
First be sure that your hands are clean. They should be dry and free from dirt and oils. These elements can stick to the paper and eventually ruin it. Any spots on the comic book can be deemed as a flaw.
When reading, gently open the pages, don't rush it as you may tear it or add stress to the staples binding it. Do not fold back the pages as you read, this may cause creases to the paper near the binding. Any irregular folding or sudden flipping of the pages can cause paper damage.
Avoid folding any page to mark your place. Even if it's just a small area, any creasing, wrinkling or folding can lower the grading of a comic book.
If the comic book you are reading is text heavy, do not keep your fingers at the same spot all the time. You may get some ink on your hands and spread it to other parts of the pages. Also, when leaving your finger pressure on a spot on the page for a long time, the comic book may tend to bend causing more folds.
Make sure to store your comic book properly after reading.
Paper is a very flimsy product. Any sudden pressure can damage it. Make sure to be gentle and your comic book collecting will be more fun and inexpensive.
