Installing Winzip
Congratulations, you have downloaded your file and now we are ready to install the program. Remember the steps for downloading any file are basically the same except you will need to know (or go search for) the web site to download the file you want.
First of all find the file you downloaded in Part 1.
Where ever you saved the file will have an 'icon' or a file name called 'winzipXX.exe' where XX is the version number. An 'icon is a small picture or graphic representing the program.
When you find the file, double click on it and a popup box will appear.
Click on the 'Setup' button and another popup box will appear.
This box is asking where you want to install the Winzip program. It will display the Windows 'default' installation folder which is C:\Program Files. You can install anywhere you like but you are better off to leave it as is.
Click 'OK' when you have chosen where to save and another popup box will appear.
Click 'Next' when you are ready and another Window will pop up.
Click 'Yes' to agree to the licensing when you are ready and another Window will pop up.
You can view or print the quick start installation guides. Once you are ready to continue. Click the 'Next' button.
In the next box you can select the type of interface you want to start Winzip with. If you are new to Winzip then it is better to start with the 'Winzip Wizard' first. You can always change it later. Select the interface you want by clicking the appropriate 'radio' button next to your choice and then click the 'Next' button.
You can have Winzip search your Hard Drive for folders containing Zip files that will be added to your 'Favorites' folder in Winzip. Select an option by clicking the 'radio' button next to your preferred option. Click the 'Next' button to continue.
The next Window displays the results of the search of files to add to your favorite folder. Click 'OK' to continue.
Just click 'Next' to continue and up will pop another Window.
This next Window allows you to specify file associations for different archive types. 'Archived' files are just 'Compressed' files. There are different types of 'Compression' or 'Archiving' methods used and Winzip can read most of them however you may have a preference for another program other than Winzip when looking at a specific compresssion method. You can specify that preference by changing the association by clicking the 'Associations' button otherwise click the 'Next' button. The final Window will appear.
Congratulations! Winzip is now installed. Whenever you double click on a file that ends with an extension of .zip, .arc or any of the other compressed file types supported by Winzip, then Winzip will open it to allow you to extract or read files from within the compressed file.
