If you find yourself caught up in the middle of nowhere trying to find extra help because your brake line just went down, and you know that driving continuously with that kind of stature can get you into bigger trouble. Joyfully, you know a bit of information on how to repair a broken line. Good thing your father taught you how. Another good thing is that you have a spare brake line on your counter.
Before anything else, you have to stop your car and wait until everything is cooled down. You wouldn't want to get burned. Next thing you should do is check what the problem is. Yes, it's the brake line. But other than that, you have to make sure that it's only the brake line that's causing all those problems. Once you are sure about it, get on with the job.
Inspect the brake line. Is it entirely broken? Leaking? Brittle? If these questions are all answered with a yes, then you have to change it as soon as possible. The things that you should have, hopefully, would be your new brake lines, wrenches (the open-ended ones), brake fluid, and some rags.
The moment you have assembled those things, start by putting the jack underneath your cars body and make sure your jack is also supported by stands. Elevate your vehicles body. Remove the part of the tire which is adjacent to the brake line.
Once the tire is removed, you can now take out the old brake line and replace it with a new one. To do this, disconnect the metal lines that are attached to it. You would need your wrench to get them apart. Loosen the connection then use your rag in cases of leaks.
Now the removal part is quite the same as the connection part. The only difference is that when you attach it, the merchandise will be new. Insert the new line carefully. Connect it using two open end wrenches. This will make you tighten the grip easily than doing it with your own bare hands. Make sure that it is tight enough not to break loose and is not too tight to cause a leak.
Before driving off, be sure to check and if possible replace the brake fluid that was spilled while you're doing your repairs. Fill them up and make it a point that you have successfully bled the brakes. Off you go!
