Admit it; everybody loves the good bad guys of the comic book universe. Without the comic book villains, would there even be superheroes to read and wait every month? (especially if you're a comic book lover!). Even more, it appears that these Comic Book Villains almost share the same spotlight with their superheroes because they could be considered as the anti thesis of your favorite comic book heroes.
Comic book super villains, as how famous comic book publishers dub them are not simply the enemies of the common superhero that would just simply wreck the place and then the superheroes would save the day. These villains have a certain impact to the life of the superhero. This kind of aspect creates a different angle of the story when you think out of the box, making their involvement in the comic books more interesting. Sometimes publishers would even create another comic book title dedicated only to the life of a super villain.
Here is the list of the comic book villains most of us wanted to love. The list is based on different criteria, namely: how they changed the lives of the superheroes, their strength (brain and raw power), and if they are interesting.
Ra's al Ghul (DC Comics)
Ra's al Ghul is one of Batman's formidable opponents, with the same level of strength and intelligence he and Batman are almost equal in all aspects. he is over 500 years old and his sole purpose in life is to bring balance to the world through the means of killing most of humanity. His 500 years in existence allowed him to harness vast wealth, knowledge and power making his plans almost possible to achieve. If they weren't just enemies, Batman could have been his best friend.
Apocalypse (Marvel Comics)
Apocalypse is an immortal mutant bounded with extraterrestrial technology. He is considered as one of the most powerful mutants in the Marvel Universe because of his wide array of superhuman abilities. Exceptional strength, invulnerability and ability to shift and alter his own mass and form just to name a few. Due to these exceptional abilities, he sees himself as the ruler of the world. In the X-Men series its really a big question on how they would defeat apocalypse, because even if all the mutants combine their abilities, they are no match for this pseudo god.
Galactus (Marvel Comics)
Galactus first appeared in the Fantastic Four Series. Rumor has it that he is the sole survivor of the universe before the Big Bang, and considered as the most feared being in the universe. His main purpose in life is to devour planets, killing thousand and even millions of innocent people and aliens. Galactus tried to devour Earth many times, though he was stopped by the Fantastic Four as always.
Doomsday (DC Comics)
Doomsday appeared for the first time with the comic book title Superman: The Man of Steel issue # 17. Doomsday story is a sad one, he was created and evolved through cloning and killed over and over again in one of the harshest habitats in prehistoric Krypton. He was bred to become one of the nastiest villains in the DC Universe. Doomsday was responsible for defeating the entire Justice League and take note, he's other arm is still tied behind his back and of course killing Superman. Is there anything nastier than that?
Dr. Doom (Marvel Comics)
Luckily, most critics agree that Dr. Doom deserves to be at #6 in this list. Dr. Doom also known as Victor von Doom, is one of Marvels greatest villains. Originally a foe of the Fantastic Four, he is also one of the villains in some Punisher, Silver Surfer, X-men and Iron man titles. He is the ruler of Latveria, and his intellect and master makes him extremely powerful. His thirst for world domination is rivaled only with his desire to see Reed Richards dead or humiliated.
Green Goblin (Marvel Comics)
Green Goblin first appearance was on the Amazing Spider-man #14, he is known as one of the original enemies of Spider-man. There were 2 versions of the Goblin, the first one was Norman Osborne was the product of a failed experiment to enhance the strength and abilities of human. He caused one of the defining moments of the career of spider-man when he murdered Gwen Stacey, Spider-man's girlfriend. Green Goblins main thrust is purely insanity and lust for revenge.
Venom (Marvel Comics)
Venom was a product of the fusion of a human and an extraterrestrial symbiotic, giving him(host) extraordinary strength at the cost of his sanity. Considered as one of the toughest opponent of Spiderman, he definitely deserves to be on the list.
