Astronomy Tools And Their Uses

Generations of old and even modern man still stare at the vast heavens every time the sun sets. The stars offer a splendor that is inexplicable. And that is the reason why astronomy was born. Astronomy is more than just looking up at the sky and wondering at these heavenly beauties. It is the science of these heavenly objects and the universe in general. And for man to be able to map or make a record of these space objects, he needs to have astronomy tools.

Here is a list of some astronomy tools and their uses:

1. Moon Phase Page—this shows lunar images at given stages on certain dates. For example, you can be able to see what the moon would look like in the third week of January.

2. Astronomical Sky Calendar—this is an outline of all the sunrises, sunsets, it can even show the dates when the moon would rise and set, also the amount of illumination on the moon. This uses the Julian date.

3. Daily Almanac—pretty much like our Astronomical Sky Calendar tool.

4. Planetary Positions—this is a list of the positions of, well, the planets at a certain date.

5. Hourly Airmass Tables—this shows the star airmass or any other celestial object for every hour each night.

6. Object Seasonal Observability—this is a bimonthly list of the movement, rising and setting of certain celestial objects during the new and full moons.

7. The Electromagnetic Spectrum—this helps astronomers separate different types of radiation. For example, it is used to distinguish the gamma rays from the radio waves, and the radio waves from all other types of radiation.

8. Telescopes—these are the tools that are used by the astronomer to see distant objects and make them appear larger to the naked eyes. This astronomer tool has three types: the refractor telescope, reflector telescope and the compound telescope.

9. Spectroscopy—this is a tool in astronomy but also is a science in itself. It is the science of light and matter interaction. In astronomy, it is used to measure the physical and chemical properties of celestial objects.

These are just the most basic uses for these astronomy tools. Getting acquainted with each one of them would give you an understanding and an appreciation of this branch of science called astronomy. And yes, astronomy would be dead if these tools weren't there for use.
