For the Body...
CroisT (Crossed Alignment) This is the part where the ballerina is seen to have the legs crossing. It is where the front leg hip is facing the audience. This needs either fifth or fourth position to work effectively.
En Face Of French origin, like most ballet terms, en face literally means face to face. This is the part where the ballerina faces the audience.
EffacT (Open Alignment) This is simple ballerina in open legs position, almost complete opposite of the croise. .
Seconde, a la To the second is its main literal meaning. It means going to second position.
+cartT (Separated or thrown wide apart) This is a la seconde but approaching the corners.
These basic movements further combine to form the more complex directions that you can learn later as you learn ballet.
For The Movements
Devant Have a working foot closed and placed right in front of the body.
DerriFre This is pertaining to directions that are made on the rear of a ballerina.
En Avant This is any form of ballet step in the forward direction.
En ArriFre This is the opposite of En Avant, or any step made backwards.
En Dedans (Inwards) This is based more on a ballerina's perspective than the amount or direction of twist other people see. If the ballerina feels the turning to be an inward motion to herself, she is performing En Dedans.
En Dehors (Outwards) In this case, it is simple the other end of the spectrum for En Dedans.
Truly, sewing up these directions to memory is a real challenge to many people. But it is really worth all the trouble if you are intent in becoming a high class and high quality ballerina. There is no guarantee that memorizing these ballet directions will make you an overnight sensation, but learning it can be quite fun if you give it a try.
