A Checklist Of What To Expect During Your Diabetes Doctor Visits

What can you expect to experience whenever you go to your doctor for a diabetes visit? The following checklist will help you prepare:

1. The doctor will check your weight. Your weight will be checked at every diabetes visit so that your doctor can know whether or not you need to lose some extra pounds. Losing weight or preventing weight gain may be included in your diabetes treatment plan.

2. The doctor will check your blood pressure. Blood pressure is one of the most vital body functions that doctors can use to gauge your diabetes treatment plan. When you get your blood pressure taken, the numbers will tell the doctor how much force of blood flow is running through your vessels.

High blood pressure means that your heart is forced to work harder. If your blood pressure is not where it should be, then adjusting your diet and adding exercise to your schedule can help, along with medications if needed.

3. The doctor will answer any questions you may have as well is address your concerns. It is important that you arrive at your diabetes visits with a list of your questions and concerns. Do not wait until the last minute before you decide to jot down items on paper. Instead, always carry a small pad and pen with you so that when any concerns pop up you will not forget them when it's time to see the doctor.

Also, There might be a few items of concern that your doctor may not bring up, such as possible complications with your eyes or your kidneys that you are worried about. Therefore it is very important that you raise these questions for your own benefit, even if there are no signs of such disease yet.

4. The doctor will measure your A1C level. Although this is only required twice per year, some doctors prefer to measure their diabetic patient's A1C levels more often. What is A1C? This is the measurement of your average blood sugar levels over the period of two to four months. It can help put together a larger picture for future diabetes treatments.
